The chances of the South west zone clinching the national chairmanship of the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) at the National Convention which is less than two weeks ahead, received a boost yesterday, when one of the leading aspirants for the national chairmanship position, Prof Taoheed Adedoja, paid a visit to Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose with an assurance that the governor give his backing to a credible candidate from the South west.
At the meeting, Prof Adedoja was said to have advanced reasons for the national chairmanship to come to the South west. Adedoja was quoted to have said, “yes we know it is the turn of the region to produce the national chairman of the party and this should materialise at your time both as the only PDP governor in South west and chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum. It is historically relevant to your own advantage that this happens now, when you are there and no other time is more expedient than this time.”
Adedoja, while commending Fayose for his immense contributions to the sustenance of PDP, advised him to take the party’s South west national chairmanship project as his major contribution to the survival of the party and survival of Nigeria as a nation.
The former minister of sports and special duties also requested for the backing of Fayose on his national chairmanship bid, after Adedoja had recounted his experience, his vision for the party , and his understanding of the political, social , and economic terrains of all parts of Nigeria, saying he is presenting himself for the position of national chairman of PDP to bring about the desired fresh ideas for equity and justice in the party.
In his response, Fayose said; “I will work towards this,” specifically referring to the turn of the region to produce the next national chairman of the party from among the chairmanship aspirants : Prof Taoheed Adedoja, Prof Tunde Adeniran, Chief Olabode George, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Mr Jimi Agbaje, and Senator Rasheed Ladoja.
