The People Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday affirmed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the substantive national secretary of the party, until the Supreme Court decides otherwise.
The party’s deputy national Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdulahi, stated this while addressing newsmen at the party secretariat in Abuja.
Setting the record straight, the deputy national publicity secretary said in the ex parte application, the Judge according to him, restrained PDP, the Acting National Chairman, the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC) and indeed the Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing the elected National Secretary of the party, Sen. Anyanwu from office, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice, before it.
Blueprint reports that the leadership crisis plaguing the party festered recently when two people laid claim to the position of the party’s National Publicity Secretary.
The Court of Appeal in Enugu it would be recalled in December, upheld Ude-Okoye’s appointment as national secretary following Anyanwu’s departure to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he lost.
The decision, following a protracted legal battle, left the matter open for further appeal.
Amidst the ensuing brick-bats, the party has directed the deputy national Publicity Secretary to disclaim all controversial statements issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
Earlier, Ologunagba had confirmed the suspension of Anyanwu by the court, his position on the Rivers state crisis and suspension of Ikenga Ugochinyere, a position that has now been punctured by the party as his personal views.
The party maintained that Ologunagba is speaking from both sides of his mouth and that his view does not reflect the true positions of the party and the National Working Committee (NWC).
Abdulahi declared further that the party did not direct Ologunagba to speak on most party issues via press conferences and press releases.
