The Association of Forensic and Investigative Auditors have called on the Senate to urgently pass the AFIA before it.
AFIA President, Mrs. Enape Victoria Ayishetu, made the appeal at the the induction ceremony for new members of the association yesterday in Abuja, said that recognition of the body will go a long way in curbing the increasing cases of fraud.
According to the AFIA president, with corporate crime on the rise increase, it was important to have auditors that will check the activities of fraudsters.
“Forensic and investigative auditors are trainined with advanced auditing knowledge which enable them to see and detect what Statutory Auditors cannot see. Our work majorly is to prevent, detect and put in place some measures to stop the wrong from taking place in future with the use of science and technology. This implies that after training of members they will be equipped with advanced Audit skills that enables them find out how the wrong took place. More importantly they will put together and implement the right systems and meaningful controls to prevent internal and external fraud from happening again.
The AFIA boss further noted that the common failure in many organizations and business systems is that this control is largely set by employees who have no experience on reading fraudsters mind. They do not have adequate knowledge of what can go wrong.
