Panic as gunmen kill another Ebubeagu operative in Ebonyi

Unidentified gunmen have killed another member of the Ebebeagu security outfit, in Ebonyi State.

The security outfit was said to have lost good number of their men to hoodlums in the state.

But the recent killing was reported to have happened at about 11 pm on Sunday, at Okposi community, Ohaozara local government area of the state.

The victim, whose name was given as Joseph Nwanja, was said to have been gunned down, at a checkpoint in the area.

A source said, “This man was shot dead at Okposi, Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State at 11 pm by unknown gunmen while he was on duty as Ebubeagu officer.

“His name is Joseph Nwanja. It happened yesterday, Sunday.”

When contacted, the State Commander of Ebubeagu, Mr. Friday Nnanna, in a telephone interview with Blueprint, confirmed the attack and killing in the area.

He noted that corpse of the victim has been deposited at the mortuary while investigations are on to fish out the culprits.

“It happened around 11:45 pm on Sunday. Somebody called me that some hoodlums were disturbing people in Ugwulangwu, Ohaozara. So, I have to call Ohaozara people because that Ugwulangwu is under Ohaozara.

“So, I met them on the road, the hoodlums started shooting while Ebubeagu’s vehicle ran inside the bush. One of our men was killed,” he said.

Meanwhile, a source from the community told Blueprint correspondent that the hoodlums had earlier sent a letter to the community noting that they should not allow any political campaign rallies in the area.
