The Niger state government has procured 200 luxury buses and declared free transport fares for students in public and private schools.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed this Friday in a press briefing in Minna.
“Out of the 200 buses, 100 will ply Suleja to Abuja, while 50 buses will be in Minna . The remaining 50 will be distributed to other cities,” he said.
He said all students in public and private schools would be having free rides in the buses, adding that “we are also starting the payment of bursary allowances to our students.”
Governor Bago said further that the state had received N2 billion as palliatives from the federal government, adding that the balance of the N5 billion due to the state was expected to come to the state later.
He said the state had also received 40, 000 bags of maize and that the government would augment that with additional 10, 000 bags for distribution to the 274 wards in the state.
“The government has declared three-day holidays from Wednesday to Friday next week to allow for the distribution of palliatives at the rural and local government levels.”
