Pakistani death, cardiac arrest not coronavirus – Niger govt

The death of a Pakistanian working with a construction firm  handling Zungeru Dam Construction in Niger state was due to cardiac arrest not  coronavirus as speculated in some quarters, the state commissioner of Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Mohammed Making Sidi has said. 

Dr Sidi stated this yesterday in a press briefing after the state executive council meeting at government house in Minna.

He explained that the deceased was a truck driver who has not travel out of the country for over one year 

He also dispelled the rumor that someone else died of COVID -19 at Minna general hospital, saying, “it is not true that a patient who has been sick  and on admission for some weeks at Minna general hospital  died few days ago of Covid 19. The deceased was diagnosed with tuberculosis infection.

He said that proactive measures has however been put in place in the state including the creation of isolation centre at Minna general hospital and isolation wards in 21 health centres of the state.

He said that government has also mandated his ministry to work in collaboration with other ministries especially those of education and information to sensitise residents of the state on hygiene and sanitation.

He advised persons who are back from travels to the state to embark on self isolations adding that people should observe high personal hygiene including washing of hands with sanitisers.
