Oyo to close down private health facilities operating with unqualified personnel

Oyo state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi on Friday said the state government is to close down private health facilities caught operating with  unqualified personnel

Dr Ajetunmobi made this known during a meeting with relevant stakeholders in the private healthcare industries, held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Health in Ibadan

The commissioner pointed out that this became necessary in view of the need to curb constant  loss of valuable lives to quackery practices.

“Therefore, any private hospital operating in the state without qualified personnel will be shut down”, she said.

Dr Ajetunmobi added, “We need to do this in the interest of our people. Clinics are not meant for admission of patients but for observation and onward referrals. They should not do the work of hospitals.”

She stressed that the meeting is aimed at calling the relevant bodies into order for proper regulations among their members, adding  that hospitals without qualified personnel constitute a danger to the society.

Dr. Ajetunmobi maintained that hospital owners who are not in the medical line must have a qualified doctor on the ground with an up-to-date Annual Practicing License, while other staff must also have their registration up to date.

The commissioner stressed that anyone practicing with an expired license is regarded as a quack, adding that such hospitals would not be spared from the wrath of government.

She, then urged private hospital owners to stay within their limits, adding that going beyond their scope and jurisdiction is also a form of quackery practice that is strongly frowned at.

The permanent secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, said the quality of health treatment received by the people is paramount to the government, adding that practitioners establishing hospitals without the appropriate qualifications would face appropriate sanction.
