Oyo: Cattle rustling on the increase, cattle breeders/dealers raise alarm

The National Association of Cattle Breeders and Dealers (NACBD) Monday raised the alarm over increasing wave of cattle rustling in Oyo state.

Zonal coordinator, NACBD raised the alarm in Ibadan during a courtesy visit to the Oyo state permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Christianah Abioye.

Alhaji Ademola stated that while cattle rustling in the state have been rampant, all efforts to curb the menace proved abortive.

He added that the association is committed to assisting state government to stop cattle rustling as well as block all loopholes in the generation of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Receiving Oyo state leaders of the association, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Abioye stated that Oyo state government is determined to bring an end to recurring cases of cattle-rustling and farmers’ clashes.

Mrs. Abioye added that the state government is ready to stop movement of cattle within the state as part of its effort to bring an end to recurring cases of cattle-rustling and farmers’ clashes by ensuring provision of adequate security in curbing incessant cattle rustling in the state.

Emphasizing that the present administration in the state under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde placed premium on security of lives and properties, she said in ensuring this, the government would not condone any ugly act of miscreants in the state by providing adequate security in markets and improve ranching system to enhance sanity in the cattle rearing business.

She stated that henceforth the ministry would liaise with all stakeholders to ensure safety and avert the ugly incidence of rustling.
