Oyetola reverses single uniform, names of Osun schools

  

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state has approved the recommendations of the committee on education review and ordered the reversal of single uniform and change of name of schools to their earlier status. 

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, at a press conference jointly addressed by her counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Mr Folorunso Bamisayemi, said the recommendations of the committee were approved at the executive meeting held Monday. 

She said Governor Oyetola approved the reversal of single uniform to take effect from next academic session where schools will be using their former, separate uniforms. 

It was also agreed that the school should be referred to as ‘Grammar School’ as it were as against Middle/High School introduced by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola. 

The executive also agreed that the schools be reversed to 6-3-3-4 as against 4-5-3-4 introduced by Aregbesola. 

Governor Oyetola said through the commissioner that the reversal became necessary because of overwhelming demand from people of the state. 

It was also agreed that the tablet of knowledge ‘Opon Imo’, be reintroduced while government will consider collaboration with stakeholders for effective implementation.

The merger of girls high school and boy schools was also reversed with each staying as they were initially. 

Professor Olu Aina led committee on education review had submitted its report, urging the governor to return schools to the normal positions before the administration of former Governor Aregbesola. 

The commissioner stated that ten of the recommendations were approved at the executive meeting.
