Owo LG poll: LG candidate Obanoyen solicits stakeholders’ support

As the race for Owo local government area chairman gathers momentum, Ambassador Obanoyen Abiola Sikiru, has intensified his campaign to be next local government chairman.

The local government chairmanship hopeful had toured all the wards that make up the local government.

As part of his campaign tour, Sikiru visited Iloro Ward 6, where he shared his manifesto with the enthusiastic party leaders, stakeholders, and party faithful.

In his address, Ambassador Obanoyen said he was the best candidate to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming council chairman contest, scheduled for January 18th, 2025.

According to him, his message was not limited to restoring the promise of local governance: A Vision for Owo

He said: “Decades ago, local governments in Nigeria were the driving force behind addressing the fundamental challenges of our communities.

“They were the first line of action, solving problems where they mattered most—at the grassroots level.

“Unfortunately, over time, ineffective governance and neglect have left local administrations in the hands of unprepared and under-resourced individuals, resulting in stagnation and unfulfilled promises.

“However, there is renewed hope for progress. The recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the financial autonomy of Local Governments marks a pivotal moment in our history.

“With this autonomy comes not just freedom but also a greater responsibility—a responsibility to deliver real and lasting change for our people.

“Now is the time for Owo local government to seize this opportunity and once again make a meaningful impact in the lives of our citizens. It is time to return to the basics of good governance and community-driven development.

“Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous future for Owo”.
