Over 200 residents of Okengwe community in Okene local government area of Kogi state have been screened and sensitised on voluntary donation of blood to contribute to the upliftment of healthcare delivery in their community.
The two-day programme was organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Federal Neuro-psychiatric Hospital in collaboration with Hayok Medicare Limited.
Speaking during the two-day sensitisation program on Tuesday which was facilitated by Ozomata Foundation held at the General Hospital Okengwe, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Psychiatric Hospital Budo-Egba, Kwara state, Professor Baba Isah, urged the community to contribute to the upliftment of healthcare delivery through voluntary donation of blood.
Represented at the programme by Dr. Dauda Suleiman, the CMD listed the various advantages inherent in blood donation and appeal to people to take the exercise serious in the interest of quality healthcare delivery in the community.
Also speaking on behalf of Hayok Medicare, Mr. Sheyi Adeshina announced a donation of blood bank, 10 wheel chairs and other related items to the general hospital, Okengwe and commended the efforts of Ozomata Foundation that facilitated the programme.
In his remarks at the occasion, Hon. Musa Abdulaziz, who represented Ozomata expressed happiness over the success of the programme, revealing that the foundation had earlier provided solar powered street lights to the hospital.
In his address, the lead medical team of the programme Dr. Ahmad Nazir who advise the hospital management to put to use the equipment provided for them and also protect items against vandalism, commended the Ozomata foundation for contributing and uplifting the hospital to a better standard that will provide quality healthcare to the people of the community.
At peak of the programme,a patient was rushed to the hospital that needed blood transfusion and was immediately provided and life was save.
