Chief Executive Offi cer of Patients Safety and Global Support Initiative (PSGSI), Dr Oluwole Daini, has said the nation’s health system was not safe. He also said studies in Nigeria and outside the country had shown clearly that patients were being exposed to all kinds of harms, injuries and at times death, as a result of our non compliance to basic health safety protocols. Daini, who is also the National Coordinator of Healthcare Safety Commodities Social Distribution Programme (HESCOSDIP), revealed this at the public presentation of the book: Global Best Practices for the Safety of Patients, Healthcare Workers and Hospitals in Developing Countries, yesterday in Abuja.

He said: “We have to make sure that when patients come to the hospital, they should not go back worse than they came, and the only way to ensure that is to put safety measures in place. Th e book is basically about improving the safety of patients, healthcare workers, hospitals and communities hosting hospitals in Nigeria. “Th e sales of the book are directly attached to trainings; to train people on all aspects of healthcare safety, which includes healthcare worker safety, patients’ safety, hospital safety, the safety of communities hosting hospitals. “HESCOSDIP is meant to make all the aspects of healthcare delivery interventions in Nigeria to be optimally safe and qualitative, and has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Health.”
