Like Fubara, Otu appoints new traditional rulers council’s chair in Cross River

Three weeks after the removal of the former Chairman of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers’ Council, HRM Etinyin Etim O. Edet, Governor Bassey Otu has appointed HRM Oval (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward as a new chairman of the Council.

HRM Edet, who is the paramount ruler of Bakassi local government area, is said to be the longest serving chairman of the Council, having served for more than 10 years.

A press statement, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, said the new chairman, who is the paramount ruler of Abi local government area, would serve for two years, beginning from June 21, 2024.

The release read in part, “His Excellency, the governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, in the exercise of the power vested in him by Section 3 of the Council of Chiefs Law, Cap C15 Laws of Cross River State 2004, has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward JP, paramount ruler of Abi local government area, as chairman, State Council of Chiefs.

“The appointment of His Royal Majesty Oval Osim Edward is for a term of two years effective from 21st June, 2024’ issued at Calabar this 21st day of June, 2024.”

Recall that a week after the immediate past chairman’s removal, the state government also announced the immediate dissolution of the State Traditional Rulers Council
