Osun police smash fake currency-minting syndicate

Osun state police command yesterday paraded an inter-state syndicate of five men specialising in minting and selling fake currencies.

While parading the suspects at the state command in Osogbo, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said his men apprehended the first suspect in Ife and had to travel to Lagos and Kogi states to ensure all those involved in the crime were nabbed.

The suspects are Saheed Alabi, Moses Jonah, Lateef Jamiu, Akin Adeniyi and Olowe muritala.

Adeoye said Police Special Patrol Team began the investigation that eventually lifted the veil on the crime in Ife, Osun state, about a month ago, when the team apprehended someone with fake currency during a Stop and Search Operation.

“In the course of the investigation, search warrant was executed which made it possible for us to recover other fake currency at the printing press that is located in Lagos,” he said.

Adeoye disclosed that investigation is on-going into the crime to find out others who may be involved in the crime.

“We know that this (printing fake currency) criminal act constitute serious threat to Nigeria economy. The suspects will be taking to court as soon as investigation is completed.”
