Osun: Court remands man for alleged N11m cosmetic products fraud

A 30-year-old man, Ajayi Hammed, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, in Osogbo, Osun state, for allegedly diverting cosmetic products worth N11.1million.

The police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the defendant unlawfully obtained cosmetic products worth N10 million from one Ojetola Sunday Oluwaseyi and converted it to his own use.

In a separate charge, Olusegun told the court that the defendant obtained fourteen cartons of CIT lotion cosmetics that is worth N1, 120,000 from one Adeola Aniyikaye Kafila, contrary to sections 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34, Vol II, law of Osun state, 2002.

He was alleged to have committed the crime between 9 and 17 of January, 2025 at Osogbo.

But, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two separate charges.

His counsel, Ibrahim Imran, urged the court to grant him bail in the most liberal term, promising that he will stand his trial.

But, the prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying that the defendant may jump bail because efforts to arrest him since January when his complaint was lodged had been frustrated.

Noting that the defendant does not have a fixed address, the prosecutor said investigation may be jeopardised if the defendant run away after bail.

However, counsel to the defendant told the court to discountenance the claim of the prosecutor, saying that Section 36(5) presumed the defendant as innocent.
