Osun 2026: Cede APC governorship ticket to west, group tells party leaders

The race to the governorship election in Osun state is kicking off in earnest as a group under the All Progressives Congress, Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG), demanded zoning of the party’s ticket to west senatorial district come 2026.

The convener, Obafemi Amoo, who spoke to journalists in Osogbo, Tuesday, maintained that APC stood a chance of reclaiming the state if a governorship candidate emerged from the west zone.

He noted that a governor from Osun East senatorial district had served the state for a period of eight years, while governors from the Central senatorial district had also served the state for 15 and half years (8 years of which were progressives’ tenure) in the current political dispensation/republic that started in 1999.

“Osun West has never had any opportunity or chance with progressives’ parties. It is evident that progressive parties from the time of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have never considered any candidate from Osun West in their permutation, and this is promoting the unfair distribution of power and representation,” the group said.

The group urged the party leaders to intervene as soon as possible and cede the party’s governorship ticket to the west, saying “We only stand a chance of winning with a candidate from Osun West senatorial district.”

Represented by its coordinator and the deputy coordinator, Samuel Abioye and Micheal Idowu, the group submitted a letter of demand to the APC secretariat, Osogbo.

APC’s Director of Admin and Finance, Aremu Tajudeen, who received the letter, promised to deliver the letter to leaderships of the party.
