The chairman of the Osun state Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Bar Hashim Abioye, Thursday disclosed that all the 18 political parties have submitted their nomination to participate in the February 2025 local government election in the state.
Noting that this would be the first time in the history of the commission that all political parties would be participating in the election, Abioye assured that the names of candidates were to be released as soon as the result of verification committee was out.
He disclosed this in Osogbo during a 3-day retreat for OSIEC commissioners and management staff themed: “Towards credible local government elections.”
Abioye recalled that the commission had issued notice of election since February before the Supreme Court ruling, boasting that OSIEC was not one of those commissions that were rushing to conduct local government elections.
He explained that the commission was now at the verification stage which preceded the publication of cleared candidates.
“I am glad to inform you that for the first time in the history of this commission, all 18 registered political parties in Osun state are participating and have all submitted nominations.
“We are very much prepared. And you can see that we gave notice of elections since February this year, ever before the matter before the Supreme Court was conceived not to talk of being filed at all.
“So, we had always been ahead before the judgment of the Supreme Court came. So, OSIEC is not one of those commissions that are rushing to conduct local government elections,” Abioye said.
The chairman of the occasion, Justice Olayinka Afolabi, advised the commission to be neutral and unbiased in the discharge of its duty.
