Osinbajo in close-door meeting with Abdulsalami peace c’ttee

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday met with the National Peace Committee headed by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd), at the State House in Abuja. Th e meeting which started some minutes after 4:00pm lasted for two hours. Leader of the delegation, Abubakar declined to give details of the meeting, saying they were only on a courtesy visit to the Acting President. Th e meeting was the fi rst the committee had with Osinbajo since the administration came into power in 2015.

Members of the committee that attended the meeting were ArchBishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; Bishop Hassan Kukah and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (retd), among others. Th e committee, initially known as the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections met with President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2015, where it expressed concerns about the ongoing anticorruption war of the present administration. Th e committee said it was worried with the way and manner the anti-graft war was being pursued by the government, saying the country was no longer in a military regime. After another meeting with the President in August 2016, Abubakar told newsmen that the committee was working quietly behind the scene to ensure amicable resolution of crises in the country
