President Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) has renewed calls for a holistic transformation of the educational sector in Nigeria, emphasising critical needs to embrace technology in education to equip students in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
Osigwe stated this while delivering a lecture at the convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) during its 2024 Convocation Ceremony.
In the lecture titled “Harnessing Technological Innovations in Teaching and Learning’, the NBA boss harped on urgent introduction of modern teaching methods, curriculum design, and the integration of technological innovations into learning processes.
He highlighted that education should not only aim to impart knowledge but must also prepare students for real-world challenges by adopting global best practices.
Drawing from his personal experiences as an alumnus of the institution, the senior lawyer challenged institutions to step up and embrace transformative practices that foster creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.
“Education must transcend rote learning and become a tool for empowering the next generation to thrive in a digital age,” he said.
The hallmark of the ceremony was the conferment of Osigwe with an honorary doctoral degree by the UNN.
This recognition was in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession, education advocacy, and national development.
In his acceptance speech, the NBA helmsman reiterated his commitment to championing reforms that prioritise technological advancements in teaching and learning.
