Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday raised alarm that governor Adams Oshiomhole, has ‘hired’ a helicopter for the purpose of monitoring the general elections, stating that his plot was at variance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who stated this at a media briefing in Benin City also warned that the governor’s move was inimical to free and fair election and urged the police and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to stop the plot.
Orbih, who also used the occasion to receive over 1000 youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the party’s fold accused the governor of ‘milking’ the state to the tune of N500 million monthly adding that “whereas the police security report from 2008- 2015 didn’t indicate that the state was facing security challenges.”
While urging the people to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and other (PDP) candidates, Orbih further displayed alleged vouchers of the governor’s “foreign trips.”
He challenged the governor to make public; how many foreign investors he has attracted to the state.
“Each foreign trip the governor embarked upon, he raises voucher for two weeks- with a budget of $10,000 for cab and security,” adding that “”whereas, he spends just two weeks on such trip.”
Reacting to the allegations, spokesman of the APC, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, said “being the Chief Security Office of the state, nothing stops the governor from flying whenever he likes.”
On the issues of financial allegations, Erhahon said he was not aware of such vouchers.
