Ortom’s aide resigns, may join Benue gov’ship race

Senior Special Assistant to Benue state Governor on Politics, Mr. Boniface Ortese, yesterday resigned his position to join the Benue governorship race.
Governor Samuel Ortom had recently asked his appointees wishing to contest for political positions in the 2019 general election to resign on or before May 29 or be sacked.
Ortese served in Ortom’s administration as Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and was later removed and made Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Politics.
Close source to former SEMA ES, who pleaded anonymity told Blueprint that Ortese will be contesting for governorship against his former boss Governor Ortom.
The source also said Ortese may decamp from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pursue his ambition under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
But Ortese in an interview with Blueprint yesterday in Makurdi said “The governor has asked those of us aspiring for political positions to resign and I am here to tender my resignation.
“As for the position I am contesting, I will make that public at the appropriate time but I want to let you know that, apart from the position of President I can contest any other position, including governorship.” Mr Ortese in the resignation letter he personally made available to Blueprint in Makurdi, said the import of his resignation was to enable him pursue other private and political engagements.
The letter reads in part; “I deeply appreciate His Excellency, Samuel Ortom, for the privilege accorded me to serve the state in this capacity.
“Please be assured of my highest esteem and regards.
