OPay expands N1.2bn scholarship to Kwara Poly, awards N6m to 20 students

In a significant stride towards promoting youth development and academic excellence, OPay, one of Nigeria’s foremost financial service providers, has extended its landmark N1.2 billion 10-year scholarship initiative to Kwara State Polytechnic.

This makes Kwara Poly the first polytechnic in Nigeria to benefit from the long-term scholarship program.

As part of this expansion, 20 exceptional students from Kwara Polytechnic will receive scholarship grants of N300,000 each—totalling N6 million—marking them as the latest recipients of OPay’s transformative education support scheme.

The N1.2 billion scholarship plan, which spans a decade, is designed to ease the financial burden on students across Nigerian institutions, allowing them to focus on their education and personal development.

The program’s mission is to create equal opportunities for students regardless of their socio-economic background, and to empower the next generation of Nigerian leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OPay, Mr. Dauda Gotring, emphasized the broader vision of the initiative.

“Our scholarship support is to ensure that the dreams of talented scholars do not die. Through this 10-year scholarship program, we’re not just easing the financial stress of today’s students—we’re empowering a generation that will drive innovation and progress,” he said.

Welcoming the initiative, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, expressed deep appreciation to OPay for the gesture.

“We thank OPay for bringing the scholarship to Kwara State Polytechnic. This will have a huge impact on the students being awarded; giving them the motivation to excel in their academics and beyond,” he remarked.

The inclusion of Kwara Polytechnic further highlights OPay’s commitment to fostering nationwide educational equity.

With a target of supporting 400 students annually across universities and polytechnics, the initiative reflects the company’s dedication to creating a lasting, inclusive impact on Nigeria’s educational landscape.

As the scholarship initiative continues to grow, it is poised to touch the lives of thousands of students, equipping them with the tools to thrive academically and make meaningful contributions to national development.
