Onyeka spearheads girl child education

Veteran musician,, Onyeka Onwenu has advocated the use of music as a tool in supporting the education of the girl and ensuring that she contributes to the growth of the society.
“I am using my gift as a public speaker, a public person to project issues about women and my passion is the girl child”, she said.
Speaking as a guest on a saturday television breakfast program me, Sunrise, Onyeka Onwenu expressed displeasure at the manner in which matters affecting the girl child have been handled in Nigeria, noting that this has been why over the years she always sang about politics, women and children. She complained that the girl child has always been out of the discussion, even when women in politics are discussing.
The veteran musician stated, “You cannot make any improvement if don’t realize that the population of Nigeria is growing.”Speaking on the issues surrounding women, such as rape and domestic violence, she noted that these are weapons being used against women and every girl child is affected.
Onwenu, who spoke in her capacity as the Director-General for Women Development, argued that girls from age nine to 18 should be given the right not just to vote but also to be educated on politics.  She stressed the need for the girl child to be highly educated to avoid the certain issues disturbing women in the country such as kidnapping, baby factory amongst others.
