Onyejeocha  hails First Lady’s RHIESS Initiative

Minister of Labour and Employment  Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has lauded the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Onyejeocha made the commendation  in a statement Friday by her media adviser, Mr. Emameh Gabriel.

She described the RHIESS launch in her home state, Abia and all other states of federation, including the FCT, as a positive step towards a more equitable society.

The maiden edition of RHIESS targets 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above in each state, FCT, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).

Each beneficiary received N100,000 to ease the economic burden and improve their festive season.

A total of N950 million approved by the RHIESS Governing Board, was distributed across the states and FCT.

Each state received N25 million, demonstrating a commitment to nationwide coverage without discrimination.

The minister expressed her gratitude to the First Lady, calling her a “mother to all” for initiating RHIESS and its contributions to building a stronger Nigeria.

She highlighted the scheme’s focus on elder care, including healthcare, food, and cash gifts, as an example of impactful governance and vision for assisting the underprivileged.

“I truly want to thank the First Lady for this great initiative that cuts across all the state of the federation to make this impact on humanity, especially in the healthcare of our people,” she added.
