Considering the current security challenges in the country, it is only fervent prayers and peaceful co-existence that can move Nigeria, Africa and the entire universe forward.
Vice-president Namadi Sambo stated this yesterday in Gombe while addressing a mammoth crowd at the Abubakar Umar Memorial Stadium, venue of this year’s Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass International Maulud celebration.
Sambo said with prayers and peaceful co-existence amongst Muslims and followers of other religions, there would be progress in every part of the country.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to live in peace with one another for their own benefit and the nation at large, and expressed optimism that “Nigeria would overcome the challenges she is passing through at the moment.”
Also speaking, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, solicited more prayers to sustain the peace being enjoyed.
He said: “I call on all the citizens of our great country Nigeria to continue praying for peace and for God to bring to an end the troubles we are currently facing.”
Tambuwal enjoined Muslims to abide by the tenets of the religion, which preaches peace.
He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in an accident on their way to the venue of the occasion.
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state said the Maulaud celebration was timely, considering the socio-economic and security challenges troubling the nation.
He urged Muslims to emulate such virtues like truthfulness, discipline and tolerance for which the late Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass was known.
