One year in office: Achimugu affirms achievements of flight data center

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu has affirmed the establishment of flight data center, and rejuvenation of the Consumer Protection Department, amongst others are just a few examples of the Ag. Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo remarkable achievements.

Achimugu, in his X handle while celebrating the milestones in NCAA under the leadership of Ag.DG, said the aviation industry will acknowledge that it owes Najomo a debt of gratitude.

He said the ease of doing business without compromising standards mantra that he has executed in the NCAA in just once year as Ag. Director-General has caused immeasurable impact.

He said his impact is immeasurable, and “I am proud to celebrate his milestones and courage in taking on the challenges he inherited.

“You historically signed the IDERA and cut down the alleged corruption of inspections by allowing aircraft to be inspected in Nigeria.

“The NCAA in particular, and the aviation industry in general, owe you flowers for ensuring that Nigeria achieved an admirable score in the last audit.

“As more aircraft come into Nigeria, airlines will be better equipped to serve passengers and there will be less disruptions,” he said.

It would be recalled that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) recently commissioned the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) Flight Data Centre (FDC).

The FDC is part of the NCAA’s concerted efforts to improve aviation safety in Nigeria.

He said the Flight Data Center doesn’t work only for incidences and serious incidents alone but also works in a routine manner whereby they track flight patterns, they track various human efforts, and mechanical data.

He said they have concluded how to improve the sector, offer advice, and regulate better which is the core mandate of the NCAA.

In his remarks at the event, the Acting Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo explained that Annex 19 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation mandates all States to establish safety data collection and processing systems (SDCPS) to capture, store, aggregate, and enable the analysis of safety data and safety information. This is a hallmark of an effective State Safety Programme (SSP).
