Ondo First lady charges women on self-empowerment

The First Lady of Ondo state, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, has advised Nigerian women to develop a strategy that would ensure the elevation of their status in society.

She gave the advice in Owerri shortly after being honoured by the Imo State Independent Newspapers Publishers Association (INPA) led by Hon Hery Ekpe.

She said Nigerian women should come up with a strategy with which to develop themselves and stand on their own rather than waiting for government to give them 35%, adding that one of the strategies is by acquiring education.

She further said that they can come together and have a framework on how to move themselves forward and take their destinies into their hands, instead of sitting down in the comfort of their homes.

Commenting on the women development efforts of Mrs Akeredolu, the immediate past Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr (Mrs) Cele Njoku described her as a motivator, mentor and role model .

Mrs Njoku noted that her lecture on how to monitor and prevent breast cancer was beneficial to both men and women, adding that with it, men had become courageous enough in finding out the breast status of their wives cancer wise, in a bid to prevent or cure it early as the case may be.
