Ondo: Blueprint staff John Oba laid to rest in Erusu Akoko

Tears rolled down freely from family members, friends and  sympathisers as the remains of Pastor John Olasunkanmi Oba of the Blueprint Newspapers was committed to mother earth on Saturday in his home town, Erusu Akoko in Akoko North-West local government area of Ondo state.

Mr. John Oba passed on in the early hours of Thursday, August 29 following a brief illness.

He was until his demise, Head of the Agric Desk of the media outfit and also former chairman of Agric Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (ACAN) between 2016 and 2023.

In his exhortation at the funeral service for the deceased, Pastor Arowosegbe Samuel of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Arigidi Oja Group, Ikare Region, said the late Pastor Oba had done his best and that the rest be left between him and his God.

“Nothing happened without God’s knowing about it. This shows why all that happened to humans daily could not have been without God knowing about them” he stated.

Pastor Arowosegbe enjoined those still alive to do good and also remember the last day saying, “Living one hundred and fifty years without Christ is in vain as everyone will stand before judgment.”

The cleric adopted some scriptural verses to support his admonition to the people which includes 1st Corinthians 6 vs 9, Rev. 21 vs 8, Daniel 12 vs 3, Mathew 13 vs 43 amongst others, and enjoined everybody to repent from their sins saying, “We should desist from claiming we have given our lives to Christ years ago.

“Our brother has finished his own course, it is we that are still alive  that should repent now as the part of the unrepentant according to scripture is hell fire.”

Pastor Arowosegbe also pleaded with the people to cultivate the habit of living a life of holiness,   adding that the unrighteous would not inherit the kingdom of God.

Meanwhile, the wife of Late Oba, Mrs Ene Oba, who was visibly devastated by the sudden death of her husband in her tribute said, “My husband was such a wonderful man. I’m not sure I can really express just how much I will miss him. Not only was he a wonderful husband, but a wonderful father, friend, confidant and a pastor and so much more.

“The love and bond we shared were unique and special. He was there for me through the good and the bad times, and could always put a smile on my face. I will forever be grateful for how much joy and love he brought to my life.

“No one will ever replace him and I hold those treasured memories we shared deep in my heart. He won’t be forgotten. Goodnight Sweet Heart,” she said.
