Ondo: 13 burnt to death in fatal car crash

No fewer than 13 people lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday in Ondo state.

According the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo state Sector Command through the Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the crash occurred at Abule Panu before Ose Bridge, on Owo-Ikare highway , Ondo state.

He said the fatal crash which occurred at about 10:14 am claimed thirteen (13) lives of commuters in two buses.

“A total of 14 people were involved out of which 13 were burnt beyond recognition while only one was rescued alive with serious degree of injuries,” he said.

An eyewitness account told Blueprint that the tyre of the bus coming from Ikare bursted, which resulted to head-on collision with a bus loaded with fabric coming from Owo axis.

Immediately after the collision, the two buses went up in flames.

He said men of FRSC, Police and Fire Service swiftly arrived the crash scene for rescue.

The injured victims were taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owo while the dead ones were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.

FRSC then advised drivers to exercise patience on the roads and maintain their vehicles.

They also encouraged passengers to speak out against dangerous driving because road safety is a concern of all.
