One year after the killing of over 50 security operatives in Alakyo village of Lafia local government area of Nasarawa state by the Ombatse militia, widows of the slain officers have said that the police authorities were yet to pay their spouses’ benefits.

The widows adorned in black attire staged a protest in Akwanga local government area urging the government to fulfill their promise of paying the entitlements of their spouses.
They also urged the government to release the bodies of their husbands for befitting burials, accusing the federal government and the Police High Command of insensitivity and unfair treatment after the killing of their husbands.
Mrs. Anne Daniel, who spoke on behalf of other widows, said “we wondered why after a year the Police High Command is yet to make any definitive statement on the benefits of our spouses.”

She said the police hierarchy never cared about their plight since the incident occurred, alleging that “high ranking officers get their dues even before they fully retire.”

“The Inspector General of Police has not shown any concern to our plight despite repeated pleas and we are yet to hear anything on the benefits of our husbands.
“But let me tell you that the benefits of senior officers who led operation where our husbands were killed have been paid in full.”
