A group of prominent Ibadan indigenes, IBILE G-7, Sunday accused Governor Seyi Makinde of alleged deliberate attempt to delay the installation process of the Olubadan designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The group in a statement frowned at the comment of Gov Makinde that the Olubadan designate will be enthroned as the 43rd Olubadan as soon the his strong enough.
IBILE G-7 in the statement by its president and a former NUJ national president, Pastor Lanre Ogundipe, and the secretary, Jide Olaniyonu, condemned the comment by the governor at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, during the burial ceremony late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.
IBILE G-7 stated that there was no basis for the comments by Governor Makinde, having alluded at the ceremony that the ” process of selection of the new Olubadan was thorough” and as well “confirmed the receipt of nomination from the kingmakers.”
“It is regrettable that the statement of Governor Makinde on when the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin would be installed, has ignited and as well caused fresh controversies at a period when the indigenes of Ibadanland have gone to sleep and have forgotten that the issue was over and expecting good news about having a new person on the throne of their fatherland,” it said.
IBILE G-7 added, “If from what he said that due process has been followed, one would say that the delay is uncalled for, and proper arrangement for the coronation of Oba Olakulehin should have followed in earnest without further delay and the governor should as a sign of honour to the tradition of the land use that opportunity as well, to show his love and respect for the new Oba- elect, Baba Olakulehin.”
