Oliseh laid foundation of present Super Eagles – Balogun

Super Eagles central defender, Leone Balogun has said that the foundation of the present senior national team handled by Franco-German Gernot Rohr was laid by former Nigerian International, Sunday Oliseh.

Balogun disclosed that the nucleus of the team was assembled during the days of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles coach.

Speaking on how the foundation was laid for the team that went to feature at the last World Cup in Russia and won bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations AFCON in Egypt, Balogun said it was Oliseh who started the process of rebuilding as he brought in most of the players in the team presently.  

“The team after the World Cup in Brazil was in flux with a lot of changes. Oliseh brought in Alex Iwobi, Moses Simeon and others who are regular now. He laid the foundation for the present Super Eagles. We have been told that we are the best ever, but there is also the Olympic team etc. This group gets along well with no wahala at all in camp,” he said.

The former Super Eagles skipper took over the team in 2015 after the World Cup in Brazil but left in a controversial circumstances after a disagreement with his employer, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF over his term of contract.

His team mate in Super Eagles Samson Siasia took over from him before Rohr was appointed in 2016 till date
