Okpebholo using ‘imposters’ to impeach council chairmen – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state has said the impeachment of Councils Chairmen in the state, allegedly by Governor Monday Okpebholo led All Progressives to (APC) government was liken to a coup de etat.

The party urged president Bola Tinubu to call the Edo state government to order, to avoid a state of anarchy- following what it discribed as outright disregard for the rule of law.

Chairman of the PDP in Edo state, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, disclosed this on Friday in response to the alleged impeachment of Pharm. Tom Obaseki, the Chairman of Oredo local government, allegedly
by imposters.

Aziegbemi noted: “The Edo state government has used imposters to impeach the Oredo Local Council chairman, Tom Obaseki and other council chairmen were being intimidated and harrassed across the 18 Local Government Areas.”

He added: ” The latest impeachment was the Oredo Local Government, where 12 imposters posing as councillors invaded the council and claimed to have impeached the Council Chairman, Tom Obaseki.”

Also speaking, Tom Obaseki dismissed the impeachment, adding that he remains the duly elected Chairman.

According to him, “My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on various media platforms purportedly showing my impeachment as the Executive Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council.

“I urge the general public to disregard this video in its entirety, as it is the product of a criminal act perpetrated by hoodlums and thugs who unlawfully invaded the legislative arm of the council.

“These individuals impersonated the legitimately elected legislators, who are currently on recess. In a failed attempt to undermine the democratic will of the people of Oredo.”

He noted that the impersonation act represents the height of criminality and lawlessness, which he said, cannot be tolerated in a civilized society.

“And I remain the duly elected Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, having been given the mandate to serve by the good people of Oredo on the 2nd of September, 2023,” he added.
