The chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa has dismissed as untrue and total fabrication the allegation that he shortchanged Delta Queens Football Club players and officials of N1.1m each.

The money it was gathered was alleged to be allowance for members of the team and officials approved by the state government for the team.

But in a quick reaction, Chief Okowa disclosed that the allegation is not only spurious but lacking in evidence and meant to tarnish his hard earned reputation.

“You don’t throw stones at every dog that barks at you when you are on a serious mission. We can’t be distracted”

“How can I stoop so low to shortchange Delta Queens FC who needed much more motivation to achieve goals set before them by the sports loving Governor of the state Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori? He wondered

“It’s not all proposals sent to government for approval that comes out intact.

“The Sports Commission has to judiciously manage funds approved for its activities for good purposes.

“What detractors may have seen the proposal and not real government funds, approval does not translate to release of money.

“All records on how funds were disbursed are intact and once more, Delta State Sports Commission cannot succumb to wanton intimidation or cheap blackmail.

“The Delta State Sports Commission is aware of the envy which its numerous successes in Sports over the years have attracted to the state, but the Sports Commission will not be deterred or relent in all efforts to forge ahead with the Commission’s mandate to be loyal, develop and motivate all Delta State Sports Associations to greater achievements ahead,” he said.
