Giwa FC striker Charles Okoro believes his side are on a strong footing to claim their first ever continental ticket after a hard fought away win at El Kanemi Warriors.
The 10-man Tin City side defeated the Maiduguri outfit 2-1 in Wednesday’s Nigeria Professional Fotball League (NPFL) match day 34 clash at the Karkanda Stadium in Katsina.
Striker Nojeem Raji was sent off for rough tackle.
The Jos-based side’s duo of Charles Okoro and Edoh Ocheme scored the decisive goals that earned them the maximum three points at stake.
Okoro said the goal margin would have been more if they had used the chances that came their way in the keenly contested encounter.
“Of course, we are solidly on course to claim our first ever continental ticket in the ongoing league season.
“The away win at El Kanemi Warriors has put us on solid footing to realising the season’s ambition of a shot at the continent.
“I feel great to have scored as well as assisted in the two goals that nailed the hosts.
“The goal margin would have been wider if we had used all the chances that came our way.
“El Kanemi Warriors created scary moments for us and actually fought hard to even the score but we understood the importance of three points to challenge for the closure of the gap at the summit.
“We will not let up on the throttle in the remaining four matches on the calendar until our dream becomes a reality,” said the former Dolphins marksman.
The victory at El Kanemi Warriors takes Giwa FC’s total earnings to 57 points, five points behind league leaders Enyimba.
