Okon rules out automatic shirts for Nkwocha, others

Super Falcons interim head coach, Edwin Okon, has again stated that no invited player including the newly called-up oversea stars will be guaranteed an automatic shirt.
No fewer than eight players who ply their trade in various clubs located in various parts of Europe mainly were invited to join their home-based counterparts who have been in camp for a month ago as part of the measures geared towards beefing up varying departments of the team.

Few days ago, the country’s most senior national female side squeezed out a 1- 0 victory over visiting the Lionesses of Cameroon in Abuja.
Speaking to Blueprint Sport shortly after one of their training sessions in Abuja, Okon, who insisted that each player must work hard to earn a place in his squad, added: “We are fine-tuning areas where we discovered one or two lapses in order to get the best materials at the end of the day.

“Yes, foreign-based players have been invited to camp but we can’t wait for them to arrive before we continue with what we are doing. We have a programme which we work with. For now, I’m concentrating on the players who are with me now until their foreign-based counterparts join us.
“Besides, every player must work to earn a place in the team. I will only select who and who make m final list based on what I can see.”
Turkey-based Perpertua Nkwocha will as from early this week lead other professional players into the country as Super Falcons continue preparation ahead of African Women Championship (AWC).
