Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, has called on African Centers of Excellence to collaborate and share resources, as part of effort aimed at promoting regional integration, assisting new centers of excellence and universities in the sub region in attaining their mandates in teaching, research and community service.
Okojie, who was addressing the project steering committee meeting of the African Centers of Excellence project yesterday in Abuja, said the meeting was timely and in line with the committee’s mandate.
“It is our responsibility to advocate regional collaboration and higher education, and act as liaison between the programme, regional leadership, and the public,” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary-General of the African Universities Association, Prof. Etienne E Ehile, described the ACE project as “a laudable initiative” that should be supported by all to succeed.
He commended the ACE project as being designed and conceived with a view to making higher education work for the development of Africa by building a strong foundation for excellence.
He said: “Very shortly, we shall be presenting to you what we have done so far as regional foundation unit of the ECE project and our next steps.”
