Ogun police arrest robbers using pepper to snatch motorcycles

The Ogun state police command Thursday paraded two suspected armed robbers for allegedly using grounded pepper to snatch motorcycles otherwise known as Okada from their victims.

The suspects, Olatunbosun Ogunleye and Titilope Fadimu were among the 14 suspects paraded for crimes ranging from armed robbery, car snatching, motorcycle snatching to rape at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The duo also alleged to have robbed the students of Gateway City ICT Polytechnic, Isara-Remo and after robbing the students of their valuables raped them.

The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the robbers were suspected motorcycle snatcher who used grounded pepper to disposes Okada riders of their motorcycle.

Oyeyemi said the suspects would ask a motorcycle rider to take them pass a route well known to them, but when they get to a narrow road they would trick the rider to stop his bike and then pour the pepper on his face and rob him of his motorcycle.

Oyeyemi said, “Some of them specialised in snatching motorcycles from riders using grounded pepper which they sprinkle in the eyes of their victims. They will pretend to be passengers and stop anybody who is riding a nice motorcycle and when they get to an isolated place they will sprinkle the pepper on their eyes. From there, they will be able to disposess the owner.

“We were able to apprehend some criminals in a couple of weeks ago. Those criminal apprehended ranging from cultist armed robbery, rapping as well as those who are dealing on illicit drugs and other heinous crimes.

“In fact, we have about14 of them. We have some of them who robbed the student of ICT Polytechnic, Sapade. After robbing the students, they still forcefully had carnal knowledge of them. The two of them have been apprehended and they are at the custody of the police, ” he added

But the two suspects denied the allegation of rape levelled against them by the police, saying that they were robbers who specialised in motorcycle snatching.

While confessing their crime to journalists, one of the suspects, Ogunleye, said they were not rapists but were fond of snatching motorcycle from their owners.

“We started to steal motorcycle because somebody stole my motorcycle. We are not rapists and we didn’t go and rape any student. We only steal motorcycles,” he said.
