The Ogun state government Tuesday confirmed a new case of Coronavirus bringing the total number of cases recorded so far in the state to four.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who confirmed this to journalists at a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital, said the new case is one of the 32 contacts of the third case, a 62-year-old man who returned from the United Kingdom (UK).
Coker stated that the new case is a 30-year-old female from Sagamu area of the state tested positive to COVID-19 and is being treated at the isolation centre in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun state.
An Italian (the first case) and a Nigerian contact (second case) who were recently discharged after recovering from the coronavirus, were the first two cases recorded in the state.
Coker said, “Last night we had a new confirmed positive case of COVID-19 which is 30-year-old female and a contact of the third case.
“So far in Ogun state, we ran 60 tests of which we have four positive cases. The four positive cases are actually two clusters. The second case is the contact of the first. And the fourth case is the contact of the third.
“As I said, we ran 68 tests, four positive, 58 negative. And six are pending. We also have 112 contacts tracing of individuals of which 40 have completed their 14 days follow-up. We are currently, actively following 72 cases.”
The commissioner raised the alarm that some mothers in the state were giving their children hand sanitisers to drink to protect them against contracting coronavirus.
