Ogun: 5 killed in fatal accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway 

Five persons have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, CRC Florence Okpe, stated this in a press statement made available to newsmen Sunday.

Okpe stated that FRSC Ogunmakin unit in conjunction with the Police command carried out a rescue operation at the early hours of Sunday morning at about 0615 hrs on Lagos-Ibadan expressway few meters before Foursquare camp.

“A total of 21 persons were involved in a multiple crash and all male adult. 12 people were injured and unfortunately 5  persons were recorded dead from the road traffic crash and the remaining were unhurt.

“3 vehicles were involved with registration numbers KMC- 810ZB a DAF truck, TMA- 244XA a Toyota bus and a Mitsubishi pickup with no registration number on it,” the statement reads.

Okpe added that the suspected cause of the crash were over speeding which resulted in tyre bust and loss of control on the part of the truck driver who’s vehicle crashed and occupied the road as others were running into the crashed vehicle. 

“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara,” she added.

The Sector Commander ,FRSC, Ogun, Anthony Uga, advised motorists to shun the use of sub- standard tyres and also apply common sense speed limit especially in this rainy season.
