OGFZA: Suspended manager alleges threat to life

Suspended manager with the Abuja offi ce of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority,(OGFZA) Mr.

Funmi Omosule, has alleged that four of the agency’s staff involved in the scam that led to his suspension, are allegedly threatening his life.

Omosule was suspended by the authority for allegedly exposing the supply of old refurbished generator to the Authority as new, in one of the numerous dubious supplies in the bid to scam the authority of N100billion.

Omosule claimed that shortly after the last adjournment in the matter, he “has been receiving threat calls on his mobile telephone, with callers daring him to appear in court on October 10 and lose his life”.

Th e suspended manager had approached an Abuja High Court in 2011 to quash his purported unlawful suspension, which was premised on his inability to present the original of his credentials, despite providing certifi ed true copies of same.

Th e plaintiff noted that shortly after he instituted the suit, someone called him and informed him that he had been contacted by his coworkers to eliminate him, but that he always investigates allegations against any of his victim before carrying out his task.

He added that in the past, attempts were made twice on his life, leading to a petition written to the Inspector General of Police, against four staff who were suspected to hide his fi les from Board, and distorted his names as Oluwafunmilayo O Funmi instead of Funmilayo Omosule.

He, however, stated that the Managing Director refused them to honour police invitation and the Police never followed up, putting his life in apparent danger.

“Similarly, all those known to have associated with him as assistants and known friends are living in fear of reprisal attack, especially his Personal Secretary, Mrs Victoria Obisanya, who is always in court and interacting with the Press on the case”, he said.

Earlier on in 2015, Omosule had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over his ordeals in a letter dated July 23, 2015 and titled ‘Corruption in Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority and Th reat to Life’, where he explained how the scam was perpetrated and how his exposure of the scam led to his unlawful suspension by the OGFZA.

Responding to the petition, he said the case was referred by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission for further investigation, vide a letter dated August 11, 2015, signed by Engineer Nebolisa Emodi, Permanent Secretary, State House and titled ‘Re: Corruption in Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority and Th reat to Life’, which was asked to investigate and report back for further briefi ng of Mr.

President.

At the High Court, the only defence fi led by the OGFZA through its counsel for suspending Mr Omosule was that he could not produce the original copies of his credentials, which he claimed was lost, despite producing the Certifi ed True Copies of same.
