Obi, Obiano, Odua speak on 2019 elections at New Year

As the country joins the rest of the world to celebrate New Year, the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano; his predecessor and vice Presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi; and Senator Stella Odua of Anambra South Senatorial zone have called for a sober reflection.

Obiano, in  a New Year Message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr James Eze,  observed that year 2019 was a watershed in the modern history of Nigeria and called for a sober reflection, prayers, contrition and brotherly love among Nigerians.

According to him, “A new page of history has opened before us today. It is up to us as one people who desire a better world for ourselves and our children to write a dazzling account of ourselves with our actions and inactions with our choices and preferences.

“The New Year offers us a time for deep reflection on the political choices we must make in February. This is a defining year in our political history and a year when we must choose between marching forward or sliding backwards. But whatever our decision finally turns out to be, it must serve the purpose of deepening the roots of our democracy.”

The governor, however, posited that Nigeria is bigger than all the political parties and their candidates, insisting that all candidates running for offices must put Nigeria first in all their plans and strategies.

On his part, former Governor Peter Obi said that as a realist and going by socio-economic indices all over the world, that 2019 would  be challenging globally.

Obi prayed God to continue to be with Nigerian leaders at all levels and grant them the wisdom to take  right decisions, especially electing those with clear focus, wealth creators that have an idea of how to make Nigeria to start working again.

He also appealed on those in authority to see the challenges nations are facing as an opportunity to approach governance from entirely different perspectives, which, according to him, should include  seeing that right policies are in place and are vigorously implemented.

Obi also called on Nigerian to show more patriotism by resolving to be part of the project of building a

The former Aviation minister, Senator Stella Odua, in her New Year Message, said that equitable prosperity sharing is the panacea for holistic Igbo growth in 2019,  because according to her, the race is  blessed with many financially successful people.

“As a matter of fact, mainstreaming empowerment is essential for the participation of our youths in politics. Only an empowered young person can stand to demand accountability from the government without compromise, and only an empowered young person can be involved in the politics of the day because his basic needs, food, shelter, clothing, are no longer an encumbrance,” said Odua.
