Determined to curtail the menace of faking degree certificates, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced the submission of master list for all graduates from neighbouring countries of Benin and Togo.
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, disclosed this at a meeting with Registrars of Foreign Corps Producing Institutions in Abuja, Wednesday, with the theme: ‘Tackling the Emerging Challenges in Mobilisation of Foreign Trained Nigerian Graduates for Effective National Service’.
The NYSC DG said, “The NYSC Act provided for regular contact with corps producing institutions in Nigeria and abroad. It is in line with this provision that contact with CPIs in Nigerian has been institutionalised as pre-mobilisation workshop, which is held at the onset of each service year.
“The forum has over the years provided veritable atmosphere for roundtable discussion with stakeholders for review of operations and setting up of new templates to achieve error-free mobilisation process. While schools in Nigeria enjoy this robust interface with management frequently, same cannot be said of school operating outside the shores of Nigeria.”
He explained that “the challenges are more pronounced with schools operating within the border countries with Nigeria, irrespective of the proximity advantage to right source of information, saying: “This has prompting emphasis on invitation to the schools from the countries of Benin Republic, Togo, Niger, Cameroun, and Ghana, by extension.”
The DG recalled the recent celebration of the 50 years anniversary of the NYSC, and harped on the need to promote unity and cohesion as its cardinal objective both in Nigeria and across the globe, explaining that the organisation “is now determined more than ever to sanction any school persisting in this act of wrong doing.”
He called on the federal ministries of education and foreign affairs to commence pre-exit documentation of students travelling for higher studies outside Nigeria, to determine those who travel out and the duration of time spent in those countries to acquire degree or its equivalent.
“We are optimistic that the holistic implementation of resolutions, including those of today would impact positively on the mobilisation process,” the DG stated.
