NYSC calls for expansion of collaboration with NIM

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig, Gen. Johnson Olawumi, has called for the expansion of the collaborations between the scheme and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

Olawumi made the call yesterday when the executives of the institution paid him a courtesy call in his office, promised that the scheme will renew the three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the entrepreneurship programme for prospective Corps Members (CMs) singed with the institute in 2011 but urged that the scope of engagement should be expanded to accommodate more corps members.

Olawumi noted that since the beginning of the skills acquisition programme by NYSC, the scheme had put all necessary to empower young Nigerians economically, promising that they would not relent on their effort.
President of NIM, Dr Nelson Uwaga explained that the MoU was signed in 2011 and it would expire by June this year, this he said was in addition to other NIM-NYSC strategic partnerships.

Adding that the institute since the inception of the partnership has trained over 250,000 corps members in the areas of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition for self-reliance.
Uwaga expressed delight in the assurance given by the NYSC boss, noting that the renewal would not only benefit the two bodies, but the entire country.

“Since this partnership is in the best interests of the nation and its teeming youth population, if the MoU is renewed, it will not only enable the Institute to continue fulfilling one of its corporate social responsibilities of youth development to the nation, but will also help the beneficiaries to be self-reliant and readily employable on completion of the programme,” he maintained.
