Nyanya, Karu residents jubilate over restoration of potable water

Residents of Nyanya, Karu currently in jubilant mood have commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Barrister Nyesom Wike for restoring potable water, which facilitated a seamless Sallah festivity in the areas.

The satellite towns of Nyanya and Karu have been without water since last October when there was pipeline disruption conveying water to the areas.

Acting General Manager (GM) of the FCT Water Board, Daniel Salka Audu, had reassured the residents that the agency would do everything in its power to rectify the damage, with the FCTA minister, in an avowed determination to ensure that water is made available to the residents, engaging a contractor to repair the damaged three-kilometer stretch of the pipeline.

Speaking with Blueprint, Monday, Mr Daniel Audu advised the residents to wash their tanks which hitherto had muddy water in order to ensure hygienic flow of the commodity, especially in view of the current cholera outbreak across some states in the country.

The  GM also implored the residents to ensure they pay their bills as and when due, assuring that the board is determined to increase its internally generated revenue in line with the directive of the FCT minister in order to facilitate service delivery.

He said the FCT Water Board is providing one of the best potable water not only in Nigeria but in the sub region and reminded customers that it takes the FCT Administration huge sums of money to achieve this.

He also called on the customers to desist from giving the staff money with the claim to helping them pay.

Similarly, he warned staff from doing same and has vowed that any staff caught would be dealt with accordingly; this he said would deter staff from engaging in acts of corruption.

The GM advised the customers to make use of its portal or go to the bank to offset their bills as no staff is allowed to collect cash from its customers.

He said, “a situation where some residents engage in illegal connection thereby reducing the pressure of water and subsequently affecting supply to the residents is unacceptable.”
