The former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives said the superlative performance being posted by the weightlifting team in Glasgow was as a result of the hard-work, dedication and commitment  with a blend of experienced and newly discovered weightlifting talents as well as the hard work of the coaching crew led by coach Emmanuel Oshomah, noted that the guidance and inspiration from members of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation board, coupled with the invaluable support and co-operation from the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Commission has yielded efforts in the podium performance of the weightlifters.
“These lifters have lifted our spirits to do more at the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation. Their performances so far have proved that our decision to commence early camping is yielding dividends. With what we have seen so far, I am sure that more medals will be won for Nigeria through the weightlifting sports and I will urge them to do more because we the members of the board are solidly behind them” The statement stated.
Nigeria’s female weightlifter Chika Amalaha won the first gold medal for the nation in the 53kg female weightlifting on Friday at the Glasgow Games.
