The Accord candidate for Nkanu East local government area in the just concluded local government election in Enugu, Barrister John Nwobodo, has described the election as a charade, saying that it fell short of the electoral process.
Nwobodo who was reacting to the swearing-in of the elected chairmen of the 17 local government areas on Monday, said that it was not yet Uhuru because the chairmen might soon lose their positions.
According to Nwobodo, a one-time chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Enugu state chapter, Accord had filed a suit against the conduct of the election at the Federal High Court Enugu, adding that the newly sworn-in chairmen were temporary occupants of their office until the conclusion of the matter.
He pointed out that the PDP conducted their primaries at variance with the electoral act, hence the institution of the lawsuit.
His words: “My reaction is that they have been sworn in as temporary occupants. Accord has pending pre-election cases questioning the conduct of contested elections in Enugu State and the inclusion of the PDP in the ballot.
“Do not forget that the PDP conducted her primaries on 12th and 14th August, 2024 to nominate councillorship and Chairmanship candidates.
“It followed that their submission of candidates to the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) was less than the 180 benchmark provided in section 29 of the Electoral Act, 2022”.
