Nwabali named South African Captain, Biffo quits Sporting Lagos

South Africa Premier Soccer League club Chippa United have named Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as captain.

The Nigerian International was touted to be on his way out of the South African side following his outstanding performance for Nigeria in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

But Nwabali on Thursday signed a three-year contract extension with the club.

The lanky goalkeeper was among the 23 players invited for the 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin and Rwanda next week.

Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos have parted ways with coach Abdullahi Biffo, ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League season kick off.

Biffo was appointed last season to replace coach Paul Offor after a string of poor results.

Sporting Lagos was relegated despite his appointment and it has been confirmed that the team will play in the lower division.

Biffo on Friday afternoon confirmed that he will not renew his contract with the Lagos-based side.

He further stated that he still evaluating his options to determine his next move.
