NVMA FCT seeks promotion of diversity, equity in practice

As Nigeria marks the World Veterinary day, members of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, FCT chapter, have called for promotion of diversity, equity and inclusiveness in the sector.

Speaking at the ceremony to mark the day, the chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, said the level of success the chapter has enjoyed in the last two years can be attributed to the level of professional inclusiveness in its leadership.

According to him, the profession has its different institutions and activities that have demonstrated equity, all-inclusiveness and have invested in diversity.

While commending the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for it positive disposition toward the profession, Ogbu called on the incoming government to establish veterinary desks in some relative agencies,

The chairman of the occasion, Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the National Assembly had enacted various laws that support the veterinary profession in the last five years and urged them to be proactive in maintaining standards in the profession.

He stressed the need to promote diversity, equity and inclusiveness in the veterinary profession, saying the profession was committed to best practices to uplift life through ethical professional animal care health service which is the vision of the Association.

Delivering the keynote speech, the Executive secretary of Agriculture Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Professor Garuba Sharubutu said promoting diversity, equity and inclusiveness which is the theme of this year’s celebration, the veterinary profession must take collective responsibility of all veterinarians.
