The Nigerian Union of Teachers has appealed to the Federal government to employ highly qualified teachers to teach in the basic schools to ensure high standard of education.

The Union’s President, Mr Michael Alogba who made the demand in Abuja also stated during the 2013edition of President’s Teachers and schools excellence award that the honour would go a long way in giving Nigerian teachers and the education system a place of Pride in the country’s National life.

Alogba urged the federal government to sustain and maintain the award initiative which began in 2007 with the objective of encouraging and rewarding outstanding teachers who have contributed to the development of basic education in Nigeria.”With this federal government initiative, which has been consistent since 2007,i want to say that this will encourage our teachers more to give in their best and also remain dedicated”

“NUT also appeal to the federal government to move this award ceremony back to October 5th when the world teachers day is always celebrated to give the President’s teachers ceremony award more meaning”
